Reviewing the data of the June 3rd primaries it is clear that cross over voting played a major factor in the outcome. IE: Hinds County (Jackson Miss) is 68% Democrat. However more people voted for Thad Cochran in the GOP primary election in Hinds County than voted for Travis Childers in the Democrat primary. The 5,000 vote advantage Cochran had in Hinds country prevented McDaniels from getting over 50% of the statewide vote and created a run off election on June 24th.
Should Mississippi go to a close primary system where only GOP voters can select their candidate for the general election. And only Democrat voters can choose who they want as their candidate in the general election. Or should they keep the open primary system so all people can pick and choose which primary they want to vote in.
